Lightning

There were several reasons why I picked Lightning as the character to design my contest graphics around; it was kind of a risky move because the game "Final Fantasy XIII" has yet to be released, and not much is known about her. Lightning is kind of a mystery, and you can only derive her character traits from what is shown in the previews for the game. She is quite the fighter, and in the previews she is shown in intense battle scenes with many showy aerial moves. She wields both a gun and sword which separates her from many typical RPG heroines. Her character design was meant to resemble that of Cloud, one of the most popular characters from a previous Final Fantasy Game.

Throughout the competition I have used title of "Divine" or "Divinity" in my graphics because Lightning really embodies the term in her form, fighting style, and just in general. I believe she is one of the strongest and most complex video game characters of all time. She defies the stereotype of women being frail and agile, it's not very often that you find such a strong female main-character in an intense RPG. I am excited to see more of her character revealed when the game is released.
